"Hand stitched embroidery, like all traditional, craft-based needlework, is a slow and linear process,
but this allows time to reflect as the work progresses."
Amanda first began translating her imagery into sewn embroidered textiles while studying surface pattern when working for her degree in ceramics.
Influences for her tapestries and embroidered panels have always come from personal experiences and have evolved over time, but her style and a personal approach has remained constant. Inspiration has been found in the themes of courtship, motherhood, feeding and familiar, everyday images. More recently she has turned to the natural world and its creatures for a valuable visual resource. She employs these themes and translates them into contemporary and often humorous art textiles.
Amanda Wright is an accomplished embroiderer, and creates her own unique designs. She is experienced in working to commission and enjoys liaising with a client from the initial design stage through to completion. She is currently working on a commission for a series of hand stitched wall hangings for Roch Castle in Pembrokeshire, a project to the restore and refurbish the 13th century castle to create an exclusive luxury hotel and retreat.
